Allergy / Allergens

An allergy is a hypersensitivity of the body to a foreign substance (also called allergen). Depending on how strong the allergy is, people or animals react differently to the allergen. If an allergy sufferer comes into contact with an allergen, e.g. by inhaling pollen or by touching it on the skin, a reaction occurs. Mild reactions include coughing, sneezing or skin rashes. Severe allergic reactions can cause a so-called allergic shock, in which case medical measures must be taken immediately.
