Jejunum

The jejunum is the longest section of the small intestine. It is responsible for various digestive physiological functions. Food pulp is broken down into the smallest building blocks by enzymes, protein is split into individual amino acids and starch is converted into multiple and single sugars. In cats, the jejunum is about 1 metre long, in dogs about 1.5 to 4 metres and in horses even 25 metres long.
