Mastitis

Mastitis is an inflammatory disease of the udder that can be caused by various pathogens and factors. Mastitis is one of the most common disease complexes in dairy cows worldwide and therefore represents an economic factor that must be considered in diagnosis and treatment. In Europe, up to 50 percent of dairy cattle are infected with mastitis-causing germs per lactation. The majority of transmission routes are due to poor barn hygiene and milking errors. If the animal’s defences are weakened, bacteria and yeasts can enter the udder via various routes and trigger mastitis.
